Supply and Installation of 6 x Ø500 System Chimneys serving FG Wilson Gen Sets providing back up power to the Hospital. The exhausts needed to run horizontally above the entrance to the hotel before rising vertically to reach the roof of the energy centre, from where a further extended horizontal run was required with support before turning into th e main vertical runs supported from the existing concrete stack.

Challenge

This work involved the supply and installation of six ICS 5000 twin-wall generator flues, carefully routed according to pre-agreed paths. The flues were initially run horizontally above one of the hospital entrances before transitioning vertically to the roof of the Energy Centre. From there, they continued with an additional horizontal run before reaching the main vertical risers, which were securely anchored to the existing concrete stack, ensuring stability and optimal performance of the system.

Solution

The ICS5000 System Chimney solution with its engineered precision joints and a designation of T600 H1 D V3 was chosen due to its ease of installation and proven track record. Detailed Risk Assessments and Method Statements were required to be submitted for approval by NHS authorities prior to commencement on-site.The systems were designed to fan out around the existing stack making this installation visually striking.

The Customer

The client for the project was NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, one of Scotland's largest health boards. The architectural work was undertaken by BMJ, while the consulting engineers for the project were FLN Consulting Engineers. The contractors responsible for the execution were Thistle Generators, who worked in close collaboration with Schiedel's experienced contracts team to deliver the project successfully.
