Schiedel awarded World Class Status again.
The World Class Awards are Braas Monier’s way of rewarding innovation and efficiency within all the Braas Monier plants throughout the world.
The SPiD (Superior Production Industrial Domain) awards were introduced just under ten years ago, as part of activities within the full Braas Monier restructuring, to improve the plants, as well as bringing them all in line to the same standards. The SPiD award was recently renamed to the Factory Excellence Award, which, like the previous award, was based on KPI’s, audits, improvement checks and health and safety.
There are a number of tiers to the award, such as bronze, silver, gold, etc. but Schiedel have been awarded the top honour, the World Class Award for 4 consecutive years.
Out of 120 plants, only 3 (including Washington) have been awarded World Class Status, which means that Schiedel Chimney Systems in Washington are now one of the plants held up as an example to others on how to maximise efficiency.
The two day visit saw Alessandro Cappellini, President of Schiedel, with Giuliano Caglio, Operation and Performance Manager of Schiedel and also Dr. Rainer Tharmann, Director of Building and Factory Excellence from Braas Monier, being given a tour of the factory by the Lean Team, who had successfully completed their projects and become qualified to the relevant BTEC level. They showed improvements made since the last visit in areas such as Flex production improvements, material handling, as well as the new Weil Flexistar machine.
The presentation took place in the SPiD area in the factory, during which all the Lean Team were presented with their BTEC Level 2 and 3 Certificates for Lean Organisational Management Techniques. A further example of Schiedel’s investment in it’s most valuable resource: It’s people.
The World Class Awards were presented to Plant Manager, Barrie Wray and Production Manager, Scott Roberts, by Alessandro Cappellini, with Giuliano Caglio and also Dr. Rainer Tharmann.
Well done to everyone at Schiedel Chimney Systems.
